Topic Introduction

Welcome the Gates Public Library's research guide to significant social, economic, political, and cultural achievements/contributions of Asian Americans (specifically those of Eastern Asian origin).
The purpose of this guide is to help Gates-Chili High School students to find highly accurate and appropriate sources, both in print and online, for their annual assignment on this topic.
All print resources listed are owned by Gates Public Library or by other libraries within the Monroe County Library System, which can requested for pick-up at Gates. Since requests can take various amounts of time depending on number of copies and demand, we recommend beginning the research process as soon as the assignment is received.
Remember that when doing a basic search in the catalog, selecting "Subjects" as the drop-down box option or clicking on a subject when you view a full record can connect you with many sources already grouped together.

Here are some sample subjects:
Asian Americans
Asian Americans Biography
Asian Americans Cultural assimilation
Asian Americans Politics and government
Asian Americans Race Identity
Asian Americans Social conditions
(for specific groups, try replacing "Asian" with the group or country of origin, e.g. Chinese Americans Biography)

If any user would like further assistance from a librarian during any point in the research process, please call us at (585) 247-6446, M-Th from 9-9 and F from 9-6.

Disclaimer: This research guide blog was created for a library reference class at the University at Buffalo and is not affiliated with Gates Public Library or the Monroe County Library System. However, the guide does provide accurate information on the resources offered from the system's member libraries.
