Web Resources

Several of the databases listed bellow are availible to all Monroe County Library System library card holders though NOVEL. You will need your library card number to login for access.

Biography Resource Center
--This database provides entries from many excellent print sources as well as a list of "vetted" websites with biographical information on specific individuals. A recommend strategy if you are not sure of what individual(s) you want information about is to browse through one of the biography print resources listed by this guide to give you some ideas.

Gale Custom Newspapers (all)
--Includes over 150 full text newspapers, including the New York Times. A good source for accounts of events involving Asian Americans or just stories of Asian Americans in the news (specific individuals or general).

InfoTrac OneFile
--Contains 9,000 periodicals with some issues going as far back as 1980. A general search for "Asian Americans" will provide a long list of varied results as well as a list of more specific subject headings for directed browsing.

TOPICSearch
--This EBSCOhost database contains both periodical articles as well as transcripts of news broadcasts and interviews (primary sources).

The Library of Congress, American Memory Collection
--This collection provides historical images, including events, groups, individuals, documents, and advertisements.

Asian Nation: Asian American History, Demographics, and Issues
--This site is run by a professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Asian Studies Department as a public access version of "Asian Americans 101." It contains many useful statistics and specific entries on a wide range of current topics and issues.

Model Minority: A Guide to Asian American Empowerment
--This site serves as both a social network type area and new-collector for and about Asian Americans. It is a good source for finding articles on the latest new related to Asian Americans and seeing actually Asian Americans' responses to this news.
